Biography
Mia Poppe is a highly sought after matrimonial attorney, particularly in matters where custody is at issue. Mia grew up in South Carolina, the granddaughter of a sharecropper, and because of her family background, Mia operates in pragmatism, honesty, faith, and is comfortable in “against all odd” scenarios. Even during her formative upbringing and education, Mia embodied the true definition of relentlessness, pursuing her vision for higher education, family, and her own business. Mia describes her greatest accomplishments as (1) being a parent of remarkable humans and (2) living the life of her creation each day. Mia, who also personally experienced divorce and a highly contested custody litigation, is a successful family and matrimonial attorney, advocating for the rights of her clients and encouraging them to find their real happily ever after, as she is certainly living her real happily ever after.
Mia earned a B.S. degree from the College of Charleston, and thereafter began her career in banking and finance in the San Francisco Bay area. Later, she received her Juris Doctorate degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude.
With twenty-two (22) years of experience as a senior business leader at Citicorp, GE Capital, and Bank of America, Mia has merged her banking acumen with her legal acumen to the benefit of clients. Mia’s deep understanding of business practices brings a unique perspective to her firm. Her ability to navigate the intricate intersection of law and finance sets her apart, making her a well-versed lawyer who can deliver comprehensive and strategic guidance to her clients.
Mia’s dedication to her community is as strong as her dedication to her clients. Mia takes an active role in several organizations across the communities she holds dear. She has been an active member of the Parents Association (the “PA”) at Columbia Grammar & Prep School – Mia takes pride in cooking hundreds of waffles at the annual CGPS street fair. She also serves on the board of the Riverside Park Conservancy (RPC). From 2015 to 2018, Mia was a member of the Lincoln Center Kids Committee, where she supported initiatives to make the arts accessible to all New York City children; she remains a Lincoln Center financial sponsor of family programming for all New Yorkers. Mia is also a trained facilitator of Parents in Action, a non-profit whose mission is to help parents in the independent school communities engage in difficult conversations regarding issues that affect all children. Mia is not a foodie, but she certainly is an ”arty” as Mia loves the arts and spends much of her spare time in art galleries and museums. Mia’s daughters are also deeply involved in ballet.
With two office locations, one in Midtown Manhattan and the other in Westchester County, Mia’s “cooler heads prevail” approach has served her well as she successfully guides her clients to positive outcomes while providing mental and emotional encouragement for the next chapter of their lives.
Mia is a member of the New York City Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, New York County Bar Association, and the Brooklyn Bar Association.
Outside of the courtroom, Mia spends her weekends in Westchester County with her daughters, enjoying working out, sports, dinner parties, or relaxing at home with her two dogs, Coco Chanel and Mocha Chip.
